The application fee is payable in the course of the application online through the “INNOVATE 1”, to the NIS. Payment is with credit card and the payment currency is US Dollar (US$).

IMPORTANT: To protect against misuse of credit card by 3rd person, the following step are taking by the online payment provider:  1.) Applicant must be the owner of the credit card; 2.) your credit card must be master card (secure) or visa card (verify); 3.) you can only make online payment transaction only once in a month; 4.) if you are paying for someone you will need to registrar your card online with INNOVATE 1.

 3.) Apply online

4.) Print out your application form and payment confirmation

Once your application is completed, print out the form, along with your payment confirmation.

5.) Collate required documents for submission.

The list below are documents every applicants for visa must bring along with them when come to the Consulate to process their application. there are other additional required documents see links below:

  • A completed NIS online visa form with all the applicants’ details printed out, signed and dated
  • Acknowledgement Slip
  • Payment Slip
  • Payment of Service charges (Multiple Visa) (STR) (TWP)
  • Valid Travelling document (i.e. passport), valid for at least six (6) months
  • Two (2) recent biometric passport photographs
  • Valid International Health Certificate against yellow fever
  • Flight reservation
  • Letter of invitation
  • Statement of account (tourist visa applicants only)

6.) Book your Appointment

7.) Travel to obtain your Visa: In most cases, for the issuance of your visa your physical presence at the Nigeria Mission is required.

Nigeria Immigration Regulation:

Citizens of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) do not require entry permits into Nigeria. All other visitors are advised to apply and obtain appropriate visas from the nearest Nigerian Mission/ Embassy, High Commission or Consulate - before their entry into Nigeria, as visas cannot be issued at the port of entry. Early application is advisable to avoid delay.

Vaccination:

Health authorities demand vaccination against yellow fever for all visitors. Anti-malaria prophylaxis and vaccination against cholera are recommended.

Export of Antiquities:

No art treasure may be taken out of the country without written approval from the appropriate Nigerian authorities. This approval must come from the Department of Antiquities, National Museum, in Lagos or in Jos (Plateau State). The law prohibiting the export of all forms of antiquity, including all ritual art objects even of contemporary make, is strictly enforced.

German Citizens:

All applicants travelling from Germany are required to complete the Entry Visa application form and not the Re-Entry Visa Application Form. Payments in Naira are not acceptable.

Step by step guide to the Online Visa Application

To complete the online application form, follow these steps:

Type or copy to your web browser -http://portal.immigration.gov.ng/- to enter into the Nigeria Immigration Service Portal.

Select -Entry Visa- as the type of visa you are applying for.

Select -Germany- as the country of processing.

Log in through a google or yahoo or Open ID email address.

Fill in the online application form and print it out, together with the acknowledgment slip which contains the Application ID and Reference number. Click on “Continue

Your application is now completed and you will now proceed to the next step, which is PAYMENT. To enter this procedure, click on “Proceed to Check-Outat the bottom of the page.

The invoice for your application will show. If you want to submit more than one application, click on “Start another Application”. Otherwise, click on “Proceed To Payment”.

Follow the online payment procedure for the visa fee and make your payment. (the online payment is in US Dollar and it is done through the INNOVATE 1online payment system)

Print out the NIS e-Receipt

How to print your NIS e-Receipt

  • On the NIS portal home page (http://portal. immigration.gov.ng/) click on “Query your application payment status”.
  • On the next page, select -Visa- from the drop-down.
  • Enter the following details:
    • Application ID
    • Reference Number
  • Submit the details.
  • Your full application details shall be returned.
  • Scroll down the page and click on “Print Receipt”
  • You will be presented with your NIS e-receipt in a new window
  • Click on “Print this Receipt”

 Important: If the payment is not going through ensure that the following step are taking:  1.) Applicant must be the owner of the credit card; 2.) your credit card must be master card (secure) or visa card (verify); 3.) you can only make online payment transaction only once in a month; 4.) if you are paying for someone you will need to registrar your card online with INNOVATE 1.

Additional Requirements for BUSINESS VISA:

Return ticket that terminates outside Nigeria

Letter of introduction from applicant's own company addressed to the Consulate General of Nigeria in Frankfurt/M. The letter should include the following:

  • The correct address of the company in Nigeria
  • The introduction letter should be signed and dated

Immigration responsibility: The invitee should declare that he/she takes over immigration responsibility for the applicant

Certificate of incorporation (CAC): To the letter of introduction, a certificate of incorporation should be added if the inviting Nigerian company is not well known.

Proof of financial ability: If the host intends to house the applicant proof of financial ability and letter of such intent from the company otherwise, Confirmation of hotel reservation in Nigeria.

Additional Requirements for TOURIST VISA

Return ticket that terminates out of Nigeria

Formal letter of invitation addressed to the Consulate General of Nigeria in Frankfurt/M. The letter should include the following:

  • The correct address in Nigeria
  • The invitee’s relation to the applicant should be explained
  • The invitation letter should be signed and dated

Immigration responsibility: The invitee should declare that he/she takes over immigration responsibility for the applicant

Copy of the data page of the invitee’s valid passport, if a Nigerian citizen; if a foreigner living in Nigeria: copy of the residence permit

Proof of financial ability: If the host intends to house the applicant: proof of financial ability including 3 months’ salary statement of host in the case of civil servants, otherwise: confirmation of hotel reservation in Nigeria

Evidence of self-support in the absence of an invitation letter

Reservation of return air ticket 

Carnet de Voyage of the vehicle (only if travelling by motor vehicle)

Special requirements for CHILD VISA:

Copy of birth certificate

Accompanying letters signed by both parents (in cases of sole custody of one parent one signature is sufficient, together with a copy of a legal document to this effect).

Copies of the parents’ passports (or of one parent’s passport, in the above mentioned case holds).

Special requirements for MINORS:

Birth certificate reflecting names of both parents (in cases where one parent has sole custody, but both parents appear in name on the birth certificate, a copy of a legal document to this effect has to be presented).

Copy of the data page of both parents’ passports (or one parent’s passport, in the above mentioned case).

Letter of consent signed by both parents (in cases of sole custody of one parent one signatory is sufficient).

Two passport front-faced photograph of each child.

These requirements hold only for travellers who enter into Nigerian territory before continuing their journey. For stopover transit no visa is required.

Evidence of self-support in the absence of an invitation letter

Evidence of admission into the country of destination beyond Nigeria.

Special requirements for TRANSIT VISA:

OFFICIAL AND DIPLOMATIC VISA

  • Valid standard official / diplomatic passports
  • Note Verbale
  • Obtainable from Nigerian Missions abroad

Special requirements for TEMPORARY WORK PERMITS VISA (TWP)

Additional Requirements: SUBJECT TO REGULARISATION VISA (STR)

This type of visa is issued whenever Expatriates are employed by individuals, corporate bodies or governments (i.e.to take up employment in Nigeria).

The inviting Nigerian company will extend the visa as required in Nigeria.

All documents have to be submitted in English. Where necessary, a translation by a certified translator has to be added.

The applicant should submit four complete sets of the necessary documents.

He/she will receive back three sets of the application authenticated by the Embassy in a sealed envelope for the submission to the Immigration authorities in Nigeria. 

Two (2) additional biometric passport size photographs

Three (3) additional copies of the NIS online application form

Certificates relevant to the position to be occupied in Nigeria

Birth certificate and Marriage certificate, if applicable

Letter of Appointment / Employment Contract

Letter of Acceptance

Expatriate Quota Approval from Ministry of Internal Affairs Nigeria

Letter of request from the company sending you to Nigeria and /or inviting you to Nigeria

Confirmation of hotel reservation in Nigeria (if the host intends to house the applicant: a letter of such intent from the company) 

Copy of passport and, if necessary, copy of residential permit of host

Reservation of return air ticket

Letter from applicant’s place of work confirming he/she is permitted to travel to Nigeria

  • This type of visa is destined to Experts invited by corporate bodies to provide specialized skilled services, such as after sales installation, maintenance, repairs of machines and equipment.
  • As it requires approval from the Comptroller General of Immigration Services, Abuja, applicants are advised to submit their application as early as possible. 
  • All documents have to be submitted in English. Where necessary, a translation by a certified translator has to be added.

  • Acceptance of IR (Immigration Responsibility) by inviting organizations or individuals.

 VISA ON ARRIVAL

Brief History of Visa on Arrival (VoA)

Nigeria Visa on Arrival is a class of short visit visa issued at the port of entry.

The VoA facility is available to frequently travelled High Net Worth Investors and Intending Visitors who may not be able to obtain visa at the Nigerian Missions/Embassies in their countries of residence due to the absence of a Nigerian mission in those countries or exigencies of urgent business travels.

 

Eligibility

Visa on Arrival is available to citizens of all countries except ECOWAS Nationals who do not require visa to visit Nigeria and other countries which Nigeria has entered into visa abolition agreements.

 

Class of Persons Eligible to Visa on Arrival:

  1. Frequently travelled Business Persons of International Repute
  2. Executives of Multi-National Companies
  3. Members of Government Delegations
  4. Holders of United Nations Laissez-Passer
  5. Holders of African Union Laissez-Passer,
  6. Holders of ECOWAS Laissez-Passer,
  7. Holders of any other Official travel documents of other recognized International Organizations who intend to visit Nigeria.

 

Requirements for Issuance of Visa on Arrival at the Port of Entry

  1. Visa Approval Letter (Pre-approved visa letter), valid for 14 days from the date of Issuance
  2. Evidence of online payment
  3. Valid Passport with minimum of six months validity
  4. Valid return ticket
  5. Two recent passport sized photographs

Step 1: Get Visa on Arrival Approval Letter

How to Apply for Visa on Arrival Approval Letter

1. Contact your Representative (Business partners, Company Representative, Protocol/Liaison Officer, etc.) in Nigeria.

2. The Representative files a formal request for Visa on Arrival Approval on your behalf

  1. stating the following:
  2. Name of visitor
  3. Passport number of visitor
  4. Nationality
  5. Purpose of visit
  6. Proposed date of visit
  7. Proposed port of entry
  8. Proposed airline
  9. Flight itinerary
  10. Address in Nigeria
  11. email address of the visitor
  12. Acceptance of Immigration Responsibility

3. The representative shall attach the following documents in support of the application

Copy of data page of visitor's passport

Copy of valid Return ticket

 

Timeline:

The request shall be processed and Approval issued within 48hrs (2 working days)

After the Approval Letter is obtained, (Hard Copy) by your representative, an advanced copy will be forwarded to you by email, copies of the same document will be forwarded to the Airline stated in your application, Immigration officer at the ports of entry

 

Step 2: Pay for Visa on Arrival

Fill in the application form with your correct details and make payment online: https://portal.immigration.gov.ng

Note: Successful payment online is NOT AN APPROV AL. DO NOT PROCEED to Nigeria until you have received" VISa on Arrival Approval Letter" issued by the Nigeria Immigration Service Headquarters, Abuja. Online Payment may also be made at point of arrival subject to presentation of Visa on Arrival Approval Letter. Master Card, Visa and

American Express card are acceptable.

 

Step 3: At the Port of Entry

Upon arrival at the port of entry proceed to clearly marked Visa on Arrival Desk for issuance of entry Visa. Present your approval letter, passport and evidence of payment for you to be issued with an Entry Visa.

 

Step 4: Proceed for Immigration Clearance

All visa applicants are advised not to purchase their flight tickets before visas are approved, but should include with their application, Flight reservation and Letter of invitation from Nigeria to support visa application.

A separate application form has to be submitted for each traveller, regardless of his or her age and even if endorsed in one of the travellers’ passports.

Both visa applications and payment for relative fees can be done only online, at the website of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).The administrative charges for processing the application are paid only through bank transfer (see bank information below).
